Imitation Stage - F2's Little Rabbit Foo Foo

In F2B, our focused story for Talk4Writing is ‘Little Rabbit Foo Foo’.  In this video, the children are doing the actions and saying the words of the story. This is good practice for children who enjoy movement and connecting their actions in an enjoyable way especially for Early Years. The actions that were thought are easy for the children to follow also for EAL children.

.

The children have been involved with different activities in the classroom, to incorporate the story with the different learning spaces. In the creative area, the children made tigers by marble painting orange card, and painted and decorated their bunny ears. In the Maths area, they have been cutting shapes and made the field mice. In the messy tray, the children made wriggly worms out of pasta and food colour. They enjoyed exploring the texture and pretending the pasta was wriggly worms. We had a tiger hunt wherein we saved the tigers from being scooped up by Little Rabbit Foo Foo. The children made goonies out of plasticine and made them think on how to construct their goonie and describe their creation. This is another way for them to express themselves and practise their speaking and thinking skills. In the soft play room and back play area, the children have been hopping like Little Rabbit Foo Foo.

In the week before the break, the children will be doing the goblins using tissue cartons. They would be connecting the events of the story with the use of big card on the board. This is a practice in T4W so the children can draw down their thoughts and the sequence of the story, ‘Little Rabbit Foo Foo’.

F3 Imitation Stage - The Enormous Turnip with Ms Anna

The children have been learning about “The Enormous Turnip.” Through storytelling and demonstrations of the actions. They are able to imitate and retell the whole story. All of the children take part and can talk about their favourite part of the story. We have the actions on display in the classroom with props for them to access. There they can work in small groups to retell the story. Many children had no knowledge of the story or some of the vocabulary associated with it. They were taught the meanings of; delicious, enormous, seed and turnip and are able to use them in sentences.

Y2 Traction Man - Making sense of the text with Miss Andrea

We re-read the Year Group Text and discussed any words that arose. These were student driven and either words which were unfamiliar (wife and duvet) or words which sounded good (evil pillow). We made links to other known words. By deciding what a rocket did it was possible to guess what rocket boots might do. Then we talked about what we could do if we had rocket boots. We also considered the word meanings; that sub-aqua means under water. Then we could decide where we would go, and what we would see there, if we were wearing a sub-aqua suit (an evil octopus).

After making a mind map of our ideas we found pictures for the key words to write our own glossary definition for our new understanding of some of the words.
